Jennifer Tilly was born at Los Angeles, California on September 16, 1958. The circumstances were extremely horrible. Her mother, a failed actor and schoolteacher, sold automobiles while her father was an automobile salesman. Jennifer, as the second daughter of four went to theater shows with her mother and was very impressed. Jennifer's parents separated after she turned five. Jennifer was a resident of British Columbia for most of her childhood when her mother and others moved there. Jennifer wasn't a student although as a kid she was very artistic. As a result of her education in the public schools of Canada, Jennifer became the object of much bullying. Her interest began to wane in the theater during her time in high school. The mother of her child encouraged her to take on different roles in plays. All of her children were inspired by their mother to pursue a love of art. Then she began to act.
